Crusaders’ Billy Swetra Named Captain Of NPSL All-Star Team

Madison City, Ala. (July 28, 2011)— AC Crusaders’ midfielder Billy Swetra has been named captain of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) All-Star team by coaches Dave Weitzman and Matt Driver. Swetra led the Crusaders to a 6-3-3 record during the 2011 season, his first in the NPSL.

“It’s truly an honor to be selected captain of the NPSL All-Stars,” said Swetra. “These guys are such a great group of guys, both on and off the field, and we’re all proud to represent our clubs in the All-Star Game”

The NPSL All-Star team features the top 21 players in the league. They hail from all over the country and must learn to play alongside players whom they are used to playing against in college and during the NPSL regular season.

“I believe it will be both fun and interesting playing with players who I’m used to playing against,” claimed Swetra. “That being said, I’m more excited to play with players I’ve never met. I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re all about and how they approach the game”

The NPSL All-Stars have two games scheduled during the All-Star week. First, they play host-city’s Rocket City United on Friday, July 29 at 8:30 P.M.

The team will then travel to Atlanta to square off against the Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League (NASL). The Silverbacks and the rest of the NASL teams are well-established professional franchises.

The NASL is regarded as the second tier of the US professional soccer pyramid; its teams are comparable to AAA baseball teams in respect to their rank in their professional franchise hierarchy.

“The NPSL has done a great job scheduling us to play against high-quality teams,” remarked Swetra. “The rest of the guys and myself are representing our clubs and the NPSL. We’re all looking forward to showcasing the quality of our league”
