Crusaders Take 2 of 3 On The Road
Washington Township, NJ (June 11, 2012) – The Ac Crusaders completed what would be the most tolling week of the season, with two wins and one loss on the road. This past weekend the Crusaders went up against the Pocono Snow and the Junior Lone Stars. Still missing several players due to injury the crusaders were very happy to escape the first two fixtures with wins.
On Sunday however, having played three games in five days, fatigue set in and got the best of the Crusaders. The Junior Lone Stars were able to pull out a 4-2 victory on their home turf.
The Crusaders struck first with a scorcher of a free kick from Adam Sternberger that went through the hands of the keeper. The Crusaders controlled much of the play throughout the first half. The Lone Stars, a very athletic and fast team, were able to get away on a fast break and slot in a goal before half.
A few substitutions were made at halftime to replace the fatigued players. The team that stepped out on the field after half time seemed to have lost the commanding presence they had in the first half. A few tactical changes by the Lone Stars proved to be effective. The Lone Stars were able to unbalance the defense by switching their fastest players around, creating a disadvantage for the Crusaders. In a matter of twenty minutes, the Crusaders found themselves down by three.
The Crusaders made a few more substitutions; one of them was Jeremy Ortiz. Despite not being completely healthy, Ortiz was still able to give a solid twenty-minute effort, even finding the back of the net off a rebound from a Chad Severs shot.
It is safe to say that the Crusaders gave all their effort; there was just not enough in the reserves for them to overcome the fresh Lone Stars.
The Crusaders are now 3-3 in the upper portion of the table. They will look to get back on the winning side against the Buxmont Torch, Sunday the 17th at 5pm at Washington Township High School.
